Fall is My Favorite Color and Sustaining Life’s Victories
by Candyce Carden
Dear Readers,
I hope you are enjoying the early days of fall. I pulled on a sweatshirt and fuzzy socks before sitting down to write this newsletter. A pumpkin spice latte is coming my way today. A win!
Sustaining Life’s Victories
We love to celebrate all kinds of “wins,” — a promotion, our football team, a raise, a loved one’s award, but what about our spiritual victories? Each tiny step we take away from Satan’s lures moves us closer to God. I used to downplay these small victories because I knew I hadn’t achieved perfection in my faith. Yet, acknowledging spiritual victories leads to even more success. It helps us sustain the victory and motivates us to achieve other ones.
This is only one of forty strategies for sustaining life’s victories and overcoming temptation found in the soon-to-be released Sustaining Life’s Victories. I contributed one of the Bible studies, “Plant Your Flag: Celebrating Spiritual Victories,” included in the book. The studies are appropriate for doing during personal quiet time or with a small group.
Dear Readers,
I hope you are enjoying the early days of fall. I pulled on a sweatshirt and fuzzy socks before sitting down to write this newsletter. A pumpkin spice latte is coming my way today.
A new thing I’ve added to my prayer journal is a log of spiritual victories. It’s keeps me alert to the new person I am becoming in Christ Jesus.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB).

In addition to a couple of weeks at the beach in Destin, we traveled to Minneapolis the end of August. Four fun-packed days with family, including three active toddlers. With them, we enjoyed the indoor amusement park at the Mall of America, a baseball game between the Twins and the Braves, and spent a day at one of the many beautiful outdoor parks this city offers.
Minnesota is nicknamed the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for good reasons. Didn’t have to drive far to find a few.
The Twins did not get the win, but our Atlanta Braves did!
We found a new way to travel. We booked through BNB and stayed in a lovely basement apartment in a quiet neighborhood. Roomy, comfortable, and a much better value than a noisy hotel.
Minnehaha Falls. I fell for the name of this park. Ha! Ha!
Unwanted Guest
We did return home with an unwelcomed guest. Covid took us out of our normal routines for over a week. Three acquaintances also contacted Covid while flying this summer. My advice is to wear a mask in airports and on planes.
Speaking of flying, our highly-anticipated trip to Florence, Rome, and Burgundy was in jeopardy. I’m thrilled that as of today we’ve both tested negative and the trip is still on.
We plan to see many awesome sights: Michelangelo’s David, the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and others. Your prayers for health and safety will be appreciated. I hope my next post will be about the adventure.
Enjoy this new season! Think of five of your favorite Fall things and give thanks to God for His good and perfect gifts.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights” (James 1:17 NIV).
Until Next Time
Thank you for the encouragement you give me on this writing journey. I appreciate the opens, the reads, and the emails many of you send my way. A big welcome to several new subscribers in July and August!

Happy to hear you are well and headed for a big adventure. If there’s room in your suitcase, count me in! I pray you’ll not only have fun, but that your trip will bring you fresh revelation and a renewed sense of God’s nearness no matter where we are or what we do.
That is a wonderful prayer, Terri. Thank you.
